History Instructional Leader
Having grown up all around the Midwest, Ms. Brown is happy to return to Chicago after most recently living in New York City. She graduated summa cum laude from Bethel College in St. Paul, Minn., where she majored in history and minored in philosophy. After college, she joined Teach for America and taught fourth-grade on Chicago's Southeast side. She developed a concern for the often violent ways by which students handled their problems, so she moved to New York City to pursue her master's degree at Columbia University. Studying international educational development and concentrating in peace education, Sara found that she was most interested in putting her new knowledge to work in domestic, inner-city schools, rather than follow her colleagues abroad. While in New York, she had the opportunity to work for the Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding, where she developed curriculum for their educational programs. Currently, Ms. Brown is working on her thesis, which will become a curriculum to infuse peace education into inner-city classrooms. She is thrilled to be back in Chicago and working for students in the community.
