After School Program
The Perspectives Cal High/Cal Tech After School Program operates high quality extended day academic and enrichment activities Monday through Thursday from 3:45p - 5:45pm. Club Leaders mentor and offer expanded learning opportunities that allow students to participate in leadership roles, build community and develop new skills. After school clubs can run for one season or for the full year depending on student interest and leader availability. Each season is approximately 15 weeks. The Fall session runs from September 14th through January 7th. The Spring session runs from February 1st through May 27th.
After School Activities
ACT College Prep
This club is modeled after the US Empowered program. Students in the club will receive intensive ACT preparation. This club targets 10th and 11th graders.

Graphic Art Club
Students will have the opportunity to explore various forms of art such as painting and drawing, using different media.

Autonomous Food Club
Students will learn where food comes from. Students will participate in a variety of tasks including growing their own food, composting food from the school cafeteria, and making foods not usually made at home. Students will learn the value of growing food at home and the nutritional benefits of eating such foods.

Band
Students will learn to read music, play the drums and perform at various events throughout the year.

Chess Club
Students learn to play chess, and compete against other students.

Choir
Students will learn vocal pieces from various genres and participate in performances throughout the year.

Culture Club
The club will visit different eras of African American history through an interactive, multi-media exploration of the popular culture of the times.

Directors Society
An organization for students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better. The club has 2 goals: to provide necessary tools and additional guidance to help students apply to and be accepted into more/most selective colleges and to make high academic performance cool. By invitation only.

Drama Club
Students will develop their artistic skills in acting, dance, spoken word or writing. Students will learn the fundamentals of theater and performance and will have the opportunity to write and produce their own show.

Fashion Club
Students will learn modeling techniques, fashion terms, how to dress, etiquette and participate in fashion shows.

Gay-Straight Alliance
A social club for students of all kinds that promotes awareness and tolerance of LGBTQ issues.

Hip-Hop Dance
Students will learn and perform Hip-Hop routines.

Majorettes
A group of female students who learn choreographed to dances to perform alongside the band at school events and games.

National Honor Society
An organization for students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher to create enthusiasm for scholarship, promote leadership, and develop character. By invitation only.

Newspaper Club/Literary Magazine
Students will create and publish a monthly newspaper. Students will write articles, interview students and faculty, cover school events, and take photos.

Peer Tutoring
A group of students will be trained on how to provide academic support to their peers in need. Students in need of tutoring can receive assistance from their peers.

Project SYNCERE
The goals of this program are to increase awareness, stimulate interest, provide hands-on learning experiences and tutoring to prepare students for rewarding STEM careers (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) that pay in terms of salary, prestige, and challenge.

Sister 2 Sister
A club for young women to voice their issues and concerns and connect with mentors.

Students learn the art of step, and create step routines for competition.

A student leadership council that represents and works in the best interest of the greater student body.

Tech Club
Tech club is for students who want to learn how to get a job using computer skills. Students will learn how to perform basic troubleshooting on computers, repair and replace parts and install software and hardware.

USEmpowered
US Empowered is provides urban students with the resources, support, and networks, that make higher education a reality. This program provides fellowships to highly motivated students in the lowest income schools. Junior students can apply to the program and remain in the program through their sophomore year in college. This club is selective.

V.O.Y.C.E. (Voices of Youth in Chicago Education)
A student-lead organizing collaborative that works to decrease the dropout rate and increase college enrollment among CPS high school students. Youth participating in this club discuss barriers they encounter in high school, share personal testimonies of success, and develop collective solutions to improve their educational experience.

Yearbook Club
Students take pictures, write captions, and create the layout of the yearbook for the 2008-2009 school year.

Young Entrepreneurs and Investment Program (YEIP)
The Youth Investor/Entrepreneur Project is an intense \ after-school program that trains high school students to develop financial literacy, equity market investment skills, and introduces students to the world of business and entrepreneurship Students will create a business plan and compete in a city wide competition for the chance to win $500.

Young People's Project (YPP)
YPP uses Math Literacy as a tool to develop young leaders and organizers so that they can change the quality of education and life in their communities. In this program High school students will learn math literacy games to increase math skills and tutor middle school students twice per week. This is an After School Matters program. Students must fill out an online application and interview for a spot.
